Bonsai. It means different things to different people. It could be a memory of the Karate Kid movie from the 80's. It could be a memory of a well-intentioned gift received that never made it, or possibly conjure up ideas of some mystical Eastern art form, but to most of us who enjoy this fantastic hobby, it's simply a way to find ourselves by getting lost in an enchanting world where art, horticulture, friendship and the occasional braai collide.

On display at Kirstenbosch's Sanlam Hall over the Easter Weekend will be a collection of trees grown by members of Oyama Bonsai Kai. The kai (or 'club' in English) meets monthly in Plumstead and is one of the clubs in Cape Town that offers a friendly environment for people to get together and learn more about bonsai.  We welcome anyone from the serious grower to the complete novice. We offer courses and at our club meetings, sale of bonsai supplies along with interesting demonstrations, talks, workshops and a helping hand with trees.

Come up to Kirstenbosh and see the wonderful little trees. Bring along your own for some advice, or watch experienced growers working on their creations. Enjoy breakfast at the restaurant, a picnic on the beautiful lawns or stock-up at the wonderful nursery. There will be a range of trees available for sale, as well as pots, wire, potting soil and other bonsai supplies. You can also sign up for our beginners course, a good way to start, or a handy gift idea. We look forward to meeting you, and hope you'll enjoy our show!
