SANBI is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, responsible team player to provide internal support on contract for a period of 3 years as a Programme Officer.

Description

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires an enthusiastic, responsible team player to provide internal support to SANBI, to promote and enable the co-ordination of key partnerships, and the monitoring and evaluation of key partnership processes.

Requirements

The appointment requires a Bachelor`s degree in Environmental Management, Natural Sciences or Social Sciences enhanced by a minimum of 2 years’ relevant working experience. Preference will be given to candidates with strong project management and administrative abilities, and an orientation towards process facilitation, partnership co-ordination and ongoing learning. An understanding of the biodiversity sector and/or natural resource management is an advantage. Possession of a valid (unendorsed) Code B driver’s license with one year’s practical driving experience is essential.

Furthermore the suitable candidate must have the ability to maintain sound interpersonal relations and highly effective verbal and written communication capabilities. Proficiency in MS Office is also a specific requirement for this post.

Key responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for:

  • Promote and enable the coordination of key partnerships such as Cape Action for People and the Environment, including monitoring and evaluation functions;
  • Promote and enable the co-ordination of key partnerships such as the Natural Resource Management Programme;
  • Provide strategic learning network support to priority programmes in the Biodiversity Information and Policy Advice division;
  • Provide strategic support to other communities of practice to enable cross-organisational sharing of lessons on biodiversity management.
