Description

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires a highly motivated and service driven person with a passion for good administration and nature to take on a post in its Biosystematics Research and Biodiversity Collections Division based in Durban. The incumbent will primarily assist the Curator in performing administrative duties relating to Finance, Human Resources and Buildings Maintenance and provide support to a dynamic team of staff and interns engaged in Collections Management and Research.

Requirements

The position requires the successful candidate to be in possession of • a three year tertiary qualification in Office Administration or equivalent• minimum two years’ experience in Administration • Previous experience working in a research or academic environment will serve as an added advantage · a working knowledge of procurement financial system and Public Finance Management Act • advanced planning, problem-solving and decision making skills • superior written and oral communication skills with a strong command of the English language • respect for strict compliance and confidentiality. Be in possession of a valid (unendorsed) Code B driver’s license with one year’s practical driving experience.

Key responsibilities

 

Financial and process compliance: ensuring compliance relating to requirements that include procurement, expenditure and cash flow, processing petty cash and banking, tracking income and payments associated with the Centre, become familiar with Supply Chain Management procedures  • HR processes: staff attendance register, leave records, monthly salary slips, key registers,  ensure compliance with health and safety and emergency procedures • Communication: draft, proof read and issue internal and external communication; coordinate planners, communicate team activity schedules, minute-taking, event planning • Travel arrangements: arrange domestic and international travel and accommodation for team members • Filing system: keep records of all appropriate electronic and physical administrative information relevant to Centre’s functioning (e.g. contracts, agreements, meeting records, reports, correspondence) • Asset Management: maintain an up to date asset record, arrange for disposals • Relief duties for receptionist.

 

Benefits

SANBI offers a salary of R211 194.00 per annum and additional fringe benefits, which include attractive medical and pension schemes.
