SANBI is seeking to appoint a hardworking and self-motivated individual to assist the Foreman to direct, lead and develop the Construction team on a permanent basis as a Senior Handyman.

Description

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires the services of a hardworking and self-motivated individual to assist the Foreman to direct, lead and develop the Construction team in the execution of their responsibilities.

Requirements

The successful candidate must be in possession of at least a Grade 10 certificate and have sound interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate in English (read and write) with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant working experience in the construction and building environment.

The successful candidate must be able to assist painting, plastering, paving, brick- laying, tiling and general building maintenance as well as being able to work independently as well as in a small team. The candidate must be able to communicate well and understand technical concepts in building, maintenance and the development of infrastructure. The incumbent must be prepared to do hard physical work in various environments,  work on elevated places, do a lot of walking, carrying and work in noisy areas and will be exposed to hot sunny conditions. The incumbent may have to perform weekend, public holiday and standby duties as and when required.

Key responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for:

  • Assist with maintenance of garden footpaths and roads;
  • Assist with maintenance of garden structures;
  •  Assist with maintenance of garden drainage systems;
  • Maintain and assist in the servicing of machines, tools and equipment;
  • Assist with general construction activities;
  • Compliance with the Health and Safety policy.

Benefits

SANBI offers an annual salary of R127 851.00 and additional fringe benefits.
