This area is a blaze of colour from mid-July to late October. A
large bed of annuals is situated on the right as one enters this
section. This is also the start of the Braille Trail, a trail designed
for the special needs of blind and partially sighted persons.
There are beds of mesembs (vygies) which provide dazzling colours
each year in September and October.
From
May to June, one will see bright splashes of colour in small beds,
such as these Oxalis sp., or clovers (suuring). Later in
the winter and early spring, bright pink clovers are seen in the
lawns themselves, making a lovely contrast to the green grass.
The small conical hillock (koppie) which is seen on the right hand
side when entering this section, is the original area that was first
planted-up when the succulent plants were moved from Matjiesfontein
to their present location in August 1947.
