The
miniature rockery just in front of the main administrative office
represents plants of the various phytogeographic areas (plant geographic
areas) of the Karoo.
|
Here,
the visitor will be introduced to such far away places as the Richtersveld,
Botterkloof Karoo, Knersvlakte, Ceres Karoo, and others. There are
over a 1000 plant species concentrated in a small area of 1225 sq.
metres. |
|
This area is at its best during the autumn, winter and spring.
Look for the Welwitschia mirabilis - this unusual plant comes
from the Namib desert in Namibia.
