BGIS training in Pretoria

02 October 2012

mediumBudu Manaka and Mahlodi Tau of SANBI Grasslands introduced the course and sketched the biodiversity and programme context that gives value to the BGIS website.  The website has been upgraded, and the training includes a focus on the use of the new interactive mapping service and tools, as well as practical application exercises in groups.

It is heartening to know how many people are keen to attend the training, and, once more, this course was heavily oversubscribed – there were more than 80 applicants for the 40 places.  We encourage BGIS users who have not been able to attend a training workshop to download the updated manual which will assist with negotiating the key features of BGIS website http://bgis.sanbi.org/BGISmanualSLviewer.pdf.

2013 courses
In the first quarter of 2013 the BGIS team is planning to run training at Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha in partnership with SANBI’s bioregional team in the Eastern Cape.

Please contact Sediqa.Khatieb for questions or suggestions about the website tools and data, and contact Paula Hathorn  for queries regarding future training courses.

Hi Loretha. As yet, we have not secured a training date or venue for Gauteng or Pretoria. We do however have a comprehensive training available on our website. The manual explains in detail how to use the BGIS interactive maps http://bgis.sanbi.org/BGISmanualSLviewer.pdf
