SANBI, in partnership with STEPS, has produced another biodiversity film in the CareTakers series. "In the Age of Adaptation" is a 20 min documentary covering the building of a horticultural art installation at the Durban Botanical Gardens, funded by DEA and implemented by SANBI.

Explaining the Living Beehive

Built for COP17 late 2011, this Living Beehive, is a legacy structure representing the convergence of technology, culture and biodiversity.  "In the Age of Adaptation" tells about the building of this bold expiriment in horticultural creativity and the use of "vertical" gardening techniques.  It features thoughtful interviews with several national and international experts attending the conference, and draws links between artistic expression, the COP17 negotiations,  and the real world of ecosystem care and conservation.

The importance of functional ecosystems

Providing this grounded perspective is Mbali Kubheka, Working for Wetlands Co-ordinator for KZN, who takes us on a journey along the Mkuze floodplain to see restoration work, communities living off services provided by these ecosystems, and the spectacular World Heritage site of iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
