18 July 2012

In Pretoria NBG, 300 senior citizens from old age homes across the city will be treated to a special programme and tea in the Garden.

Whilst in Nieuwoudtville, the majority of the Hantam NBG staff will join the Community Policing Forum(CPF), Nieuwoudtville Municipality, the Expanded Public Works Program(EPWP), Nieuwoudtville Police, Social Services, local schools and churches  in the painting of the Primary School Hall and the cleaning of the gardens of the senior citizens in town of weeds etc.

In Cape Town the Environmental Education Unit at Kirstenbosch joins the Boundless Heart Organization on Mandela Day in erecting a container library in Blikkiesdorp, an informal settlement, very much in need of such a facility. The  SANBI team will help in clearing the site and landscaping it afterwards.

The Harorld Porter NBG is going to be celebrating Mandela Day on Sat 21 July by giving about 70 of the elderly members of the local communities of Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay, Mooi Uitsig, Over the Hills and Proteadorp a tea party at the Garden.  There will be sing-along music during the tea and guided walks for those who are able and feel so inclined after the tea.  Staff will be helping with serving and guiding walks, and have provided some of the eats as have the Kogelberg Branch of the Botanical Society.
