The core objective of SABIF is to mobilise biodiversity information to make it available on the internet for use by policy and decision makers, managers and researchers.  Training and capacity building are towards improving both the quality  and the use of the information.

The Georeferencing training will take place in Pietermaritzburg from 20 - 22 November, and will be facilitated by a group of South Africans who were trained last year by georeferencing experts from the United States.

The training in Species Distribution Modeling using R will be run by Dr Vernon Visser of the Centre for Invasive Biology at Stellenbosch University and will be in Stellenbosch from 26 - 30 November.

Suitable candidates will be actively using and disseminating the skills gained in their work (or studies). Please click on the links  above for more information about each workshop .

Both of these courses are quite technical and will be useful for people who are directly involved in georeferencing or doing SDM using R. The training does not target high school students and school educators, I don't think the content is relevant for the curriculum. It is more appropriate for people in the work place and postgraduate students.

It is so wonderful to be part of the workshop, as an life science educator, how will it be useful to my job?
