Statistical Ecologist awarded UCT Honorary Associate Professorship

06 September 2012

Dr Res AltweggAn Honorary Associate Professorship in the Zoology Department, University of Cape Town has been awarded to Dr Res Altwegg, a statistical ecologist with both the Applied Biodiversity Research and Climate Change and Bio-Adaptation Divisions at SANBI.

UCT confers honorary titles on those ‘who contribute to or are associated with the teaching and/or research of the university’.

The recognition of the honorary title comes out of the associations Res has developed over the last few years with UCT which includes collaborations with the Animal Demography Unit, supervision and co-supervision of students, the teaching of various stats courses at both UCT and SANBI and co-ordinating the very popular weekly Stat’s Lunch.

The title can also be seen as an acknowledgement of SANBI’s contribution to research and we hope that this will strengthen ties with UCT and facilitate further collaborations.
