Celebration of Environmental Days / Weeks

Six environmental days weeks namely, Wetlands Day, World Water Day, Biodiversity Day, World Environmental Day, Arbor Week and Weed Buster Week are celebrated through events with schools and communities in and/or outside the Garden. The activities for each celebration resonate with the themes for the year for each environmental day / week.

Careers Programme

A comprehensive programme of careers in biodiversity is facilitated with educators and learners. Career days are celebrated with schools in the Garden and at school.  Learners and parents are given information about various institutions where learners can go and study and also various organizations  where careers in biodiversity and conservation offered. For the 2012/2013 period, two career days will be celebrated with schools: one will be a careers expo with secondary/high schools in the botanical garden and the other will be with a primary school that will be visited by the Biodiversity Education and Empowerment staff from the botanical garden.

Holiday Programme

Special holiday programmes are run for youth or adult groups during the school holidays. These cater for youth and adults at institutions like orphanages, places of saftey, community-based organizations, etc. The activities of such programmes should be fun, enjoyable and educational. The KZN National Botanical Garden provides these programmes during the March/April, June/July and September/October holidays.
