At present I hold a scientist post, in the Leslie Hill Molecular Systematics Laboratory of SANBI. I am registered for a Ph.D with the University of Cape Town and am currently working towards this degree on a part time basis. My study is titled: Molecular Systematics of the Tribe Haemantheae (Amaryllidaceae) based on DNA sequence data. The scope of this study has included obtaining sequence data for the 90 taxa of the tribe Haemantheae (family Amaryllidaceae), construction of a morphological data matrix, and associated phylogenetic reconstruction of species-relationships in the tribe. In addition morphological questions will be addressed and population genetic studies will also be carried out on the genus Clivia. An attempt will also be made to estimate the age of the tribe using molecular clock methods.
