Succulents and other drought-resistant plants have been established on a dry, sunny slope among deciduous bushveld trees. These include members of the genus Commiphora, which belongs to the myrrh family, the genus Sterculia which belongs to the chestnut family, the genera Uvaria, Annona and Monodora which all belong to the custard apple family and the genera Euphorbia and Acalypha which all belong to the Euphorbiaceae family.
Aloes create a fine display in winter with their red, yellow or pink flowers.
