The Friends of the National Zoological Garden in Pretoria will be hosting its monthly fun walk on Saturday, 19 May 2018 starting at 06:30.
The walk comprises a 5 km route through the zoo, which gives participants a chance to see the zoo in the early hours of the morning.
The costs are R50 for adults and R40 for children between the ages of 2 and 18 years.
Participants will each receive a medal on completion of the race by 09:00. The medal depiction for May is the Indian rhinoceros.
The Indian rhinoceros, otherwise known as the greater one-horned rhinoceros, is the second largest member of the rhino family. It can be found in the northern parts of India and Nepal. Indian rhinoceros inhabit floodplain grasslands, swamps and forests. Its status is that of Vulnerable, as listed by the IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species.
Members of the public are welcome to join the Friends of the Zoo. The costs are R125 for a single person and R300 for a family comprising two adults and three children. Benefits include discounted rates to the fun walk and two free entrances to the zoo. Members are also invited to exclusive events organised by the society.
