Call for nomination of suitable persons to be considered for appointment to the board of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI)

Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dion Travers George, hereby invite members of the public to nominate suitable persons to be considered for appointment to the Board of the South African National Biodiversity Institute in terms of section 15 of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act, 2004 (Act No. 10 of 2004).

A written nomination of a suitable person must include a Curriculum Vitae of the nominee which sets out the following:

(i) Personal details of the nominee;
(ii) Postal and residential address, and contact number(s) of the nominee;
(iii) Particulars of the nominee’s qualifications and areas of expertise;
(iv) Copies of all academic qualifications and other relevant documentation;
(v) Current and previous service on boards; and
(vi) Names and contact details of at least two referees.

The nominee must have suitable experience or expertise in any of the following fields: biodiversity management, conservation, bioprospecting, ecology, strategic leadership and management; corporate governance, climate change and sustainability; tourism development, stakeholder management; biodiversity sector transformation, environmental law; ethics and risk management; financial management and resource mobilisation, information and communication technology, human resource management and business development.

The members of the Board will be appointed in their personal capacities and must broadly represent the South African society. Members will serve for a period of three years, effective from 1 October 2025 until 30 September 2028.

Confirmation of the nominee’s availability is also required. Preference will be given to candidates whose appointments will enhance representation.

Written nominations must be submitted together with a completed nomination form, within 30 (thirty) days from the date of publication of this Notice in the Government Gazette or in the newspapers, whichever date is the last, to the following addresses:
