South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) pleased to announce the end of workers’ strike at the National Zoological Garden (NZG)

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is pleased to announce that following discussions with the representatives of the National Trade Union Congress (NTUC), both parties have entered into a harmonisation agreement in settlement of the dispute and cessation of the strike by NTUC members, which commenced on 12 June 2019.

Both parties have accepted the terms and conditions of the harmonisation. SANBI would like to extend its appreciation to its staff and volunteers for ensuring that animal welfare during this period has been the utmost priority while negotiations were continuing.

Furthermore, SANBI wish to thank members of the public for their outstanding support and commitment to the zoo. With the upcoming long weekend, we wish to remind all friends of the zoo that we are giving free access to women and children this coming Friday, 9 August 2019.

The predicted weather conditions are great this entire week and weekend, to come and meet our now famous gorilla, Binga, and other zoo animals.
