On the 1st of August 2019, Harold Porter National Botanical Garden was visited by over 250 grade 10 learners from schools around the Western Cape. Our new education building housed its first event where there were 10 different exhibition stands showcasing different careers in the biodiversity and science sector. Learners were informed of the many careers available in the biodiversity, conservation and sciences, some were amazed by the many interesting careers they were not exposed to before such as aquaculture and microbiology.
The University of Cape Town’s exhibition showcased careers in marine biology and Iziko Museum showcased careers in archaeology and astronomy. The learners also took a walk through the garden, which was a wonderful opportunity for them to learn about South Africa’s indigenous plants.. A special thank you goes to our Harold Porter team and our partners and exhibitors who made this a success.
