Contract position – until July 2021

South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires a highly motivated individual to carry out the digitization of archival documents associated with the natural science collections in South Africa, and implement a digital asset management system for the files as part of the Natural Science Collections Facility.

This position requires a 3 year diploma/degree in Information Sciences or a relevant 3 year diploma/degree that includes archival document/artifact digitisation and management of digital assets; and, at least 3 years’ experience in:

  • Working with archival/academic documents and/or books, scanning/imaging of documents and books according to archival standards.
  • Development of metadata for files.
  • Working with a digital asset management system for document scans.

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills – both written and verbal and must be willing to travel in South Africa and to spend time away from the NSCF base in Pretoria at institutions in various cities.  Possession of a valid Code B (unendorsed) driver’s license with one year practical driving experience is required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Review and documentation of standards and processes for scanning of archival documents;
  • Digitisation of archival documents according to a strategy
  • Develop the metadata and labels for each file
  • Organise the digital copies of archival documents in such a way that these can be easily retrieved using a digital asset management system.

SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary package of R332 190.75. (Salary level 7)
