Assistant Director 1: Biodiversity Education and Public Engagement (Inland)

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to develop, implement, coordinate and review the Fundisa for Change Programme and other Human Capital Development initiatives at a national level.

This position requires a degree in environmental, conservation studies, or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate degree or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 5 years’ work experience in a relevant field, 3 years of which should be in supervisory position(s).

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: understanding the role of Biodiversity Education and Public Engagement and human capital development in relation to the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA), the National Biodiversity Framework (NBA), the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), the White Paper on the National Climate Change Response and other related legislation;  understanding the Department of Basic Education’s Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS), the Environmental Sector Skills Plan, the National Environmental Education Policy and the National Biodiversity Human Capital Development Strategy (BHCDS); knowledge about human resources, supply chain management and financial management, occupational health and safety, audit and risk, etc. within the context of SANBI as a Public Entity; advanced planning, organizing, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s licence (minimum B) with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:

• Develop, implement and coordinate the face-to-face training in the Fundisa for Change Programme;
• Develop, implement and coordinate the online training in the Fundisa for Change Programme;
• Develop, produce and review learning and teaching resource materials for the Fundisa for Change Programme and other HCD initiatives; and
• Develop, implement and review the management and the monitoring and evaluation systems of the Fundisa for Change Programmme.
