The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to manage administrative operations of the Division and plan the most efficient administrative procedures and ensure all support activities are carried on efficiently and effectively to allow the other operations to function properly.

This position requires a degree In Public Management, Public Administration, or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate degree or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 6 years’ work experience in a relevant field, 3 years of which should be in supervisory position(s).

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: comprehensive experience and knowledge of the management and maintenance of buildings, houses, properties, and facilities; extensive knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks related to financial management, supply chain management, project management, and handling corporate governance matters is essential; in-depth knowledge of Public Finance Management Act, Treasury Regulations; proven ability to work with diverse team and under pressure whilst being quality, cost, and safety conscious; advanced planning, organizing, and problem solving skills; excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

The responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Manage maintenance of facilities in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden campus;
  • Render property management services (guest houses and tenants);
  • Manage Facilities and Property Management Unit budget;
  • Manage and coordinate switchboard/frontline services;
  • Manage registry, postal, messenger and delivery services; and
  • Manage the fleet vehicles and staff members withing the Unit.
