The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a trustworthy, strategic thinker and multidisciplinary HR generalist to assist in developing and implementing Human Resource policies, programmes and initiatives that drive an integrated Human Resources Management Strategy to enable SANBI to attract, develop, and retain the necessary talent and skills required to achieve SANBI’s strategic objectives.

This position requires a degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent qualification with NQF 7.   Honours degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage.  This position also requires 6 years’ experience in the  relevant field, 3 years of which should be in supervisory position(s).

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: In-depth understanding of policies, procedures, processes, systems and frameworks related to Human Resources Management is essential; proven ability to provide assistance in the development, and implementation of an Integrated Human Capital Management and Development Strategy; extensive experience and knowledge of financial management, project management, supply chain management, corporate governance and risk management policies, procedures, processes, systems, and frameworks will be advantageous; proven ability to work under pressure and with a diverse team, whilst being quality and safety conscious is essential; advanced planning, organizing, interpersonal, problem solving, project and event management skills; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of Human Resources Management Strategy;
  • Coordinate recruitment, selection, appointment activities to support the mandate of the institute;
  • Assist to manage payroll, benefits, and coordinate conditions of service activities;
  • Facilitate organisational design, job evaluation and performance management processes;
  • Assist to manage human resources risk, and budget, including compliance and corporate governance matters; and
  • Assist in human capital development, change and transformation.
