The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide technological direction and capability to support corporate services.

This position requires a degree in Information Technology, Computer Sciences or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification in Information Technology, Computer Sciences or equivalent qualification with NQF 8 will be an added advantage.  This position also requires 6 years’ work experience in the relevant field, 3 years of which should be in supervisory level.

The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: Azure Network Certification is essential; Cisco Certified Network Professional Certification (CCNP) is essential; A minimum of 6 years’ experience in managing technical engineering support teams; Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS); Expert level understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model; Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools; Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linux and Windows based environments; A minimum of 6 years cloud management and support experience (preferably in Azure); A minimum of 6 years cloud security experience (preferably in Azure); A minimum of 6 years of experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g. VMware, Hyper-V); A minimum of 6 years of experience with monitoring systems, preferably SCOM, SSCM; A minimum of 6 years of experience with automation software; A minimum of 6 years scripting skills (e.g., shell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python); A minimum of 6 years of networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP); A minimum of 6 years of experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation; A minimum of 6 years of experience in server administration, maintenance, support, configuration and installation; A minimum of 6 years of experience in backup administration, configuration, installation, maintenance, support, monitoring and reporting; A minimum of 6 years of experience in SQL database backup administration, configuration, installation, maintenance, support, monitoring and reporting; a clear-thinker able to solve problems and see all sides of a situation; ability to manage high pressure and be able to juggle with multiple stakeholders each with their own challenges whilst multi skilling across multi projects simultaneously; demonstrate outstanding stakeholder engagement and relationships management; attention to detail in dealing with budgeting, financial management, and reporting; advanced planning, organizing, problem solving skills; proven ability to work under pressure with diverse team while being quality, cost, and safety conscious; extensive knowledge and experience in working with legislation, policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks related to provision of information technology support and services; excellent communication skills at all levels (both verbal and written); excellent computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook). The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:

  • Champion design, development, and implementation of infrastructure;
  • Perfect configuration and installation of various network devices and services;
  • Champion implementation of security tools, policies, and procedures;
  • Perfect project management related to engineering services of information technology; and
  • Lead management of regional offices.
