The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires the services of efficient and enthusiastic persons with an interest in biodiversity data to support the NSCF by contributing to capturing new specimen data and improving the quality for existing data sets.
The position requires candidates to have a three year tertiary qualification in biology or geography enhanced by a minimum of two years relevant experience or Grade 12 with a minimum of five years’ experience related to biodiversity specimen records (data capture, cleaning, geo-referencing). These incumbents must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and exceptional accuracy in capturing data, must be proficient in MS Excel and be willing to work as part of a team. Skills such as touch typing and GIS will be an added advantage.
Key responsibilities:
- Capture of specimen data from labels (may be hand written or typed)
- Data quality checking
- Using geo-referencing tools to identify locality co-ordinates
- Mapping data to identify potential errors in records.
SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary of R251 474.46.
