The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for dependable, hard-working, and self-motivated individuals to effectively assist with the monitoring and clearing of invasive alien plants at  Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mamusa, Ngaka Modiri Molema District, Ramotshere Moiloa, Dr Keneth Kaunda District, Tlokwe Local Municipality and surrounding areas.

The successful candidates must have sound interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in English and any other official languages(read and write). The successful candidates must be willing to work independently as well as in a team.

Applicants must have Grade 12 (Matric, with Mathematics and Life science / Biology) / N3 (proof of trade skills and experience in any of the areas mentioned above is required), Any further qualification in Life sciences or nature conservation will be an added advantage. Applicants must have at least a minimum of 3 years’ of relevant experience in any of the key responsibilities. Applicants must be South African Citizens that fall within the youth category (35 years and under) and must reside within the specified municipality within the Gauteng Province (proof of residence required i.e. letter from the ward committee/ traditional authority or Municipal utility bill)..

Key responsibilities:

Among other duties, the successful candidates will be expected to perform manual labour including to:

• Monitor invasive alien plants detection teams in the area;
• Liaise and report to the designated regional staff weekly;
• Compile weekly reports on field data collected;
• Ensure that good quality photographs are taken and indexed;
• Compile field reports on data gathered during field surveys;
• Conduct tool box talks site before shift starts at the jobsite;
• Participate in awareness events at local schools and community gatherings about invasives; and
• Manage and ensure proper storage of materials and field equipment.
