The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a highly motivated and reliable individual to manage the development of formal risk analyses for importing and listing of alien taxa under the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (NEMBA, Act 10 of 2004) and its Alien and Invasives Species (A&IS) Regulations.

The envisaged candidate should hold an at least a Master’s level degree or equivalent in environmental sciences or a relevant field to biological invasions with minimum of five years’ working experience, two of which relevant to invasive alien species. The incumbent must have excellent skills in strategic planning, data management, project management, and presentation.

Strong analytical and coordination skills and a high attention to detail are desirable. A PhD in biological invasions will be an added advantage. The incumbent should have an excellent command of spoken and written English, have experience in MS Office, and a code B driver’s license with at least one-year driving experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and chair the Alien Species Risk Analysis Review Panel (ASRARP) processes;
  • Manage contracts, partnerships and agreements with key organisations for risk analyses;
  • Coordinate the production and management of data and information related to risk analyses;
  • Provide general support to the strategic management of the Directorate;
  • Manage staff, students and interns working on risk analysis and other evidence, including related training.
