Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers (CREW) one year Internship Programme
The South African National Biodiversity Institute is offering a one year internship to assist with the implementation of the CREW Programme which engages citizen scientists in monitoring and conserving rare and threatened plant species.
The intern will assist in:
- Working with conservation partners and CREW volunteer groups on the Cape Peninsula and Cape Flats to ensure priority threatened plants species are monitored. This will include assisting in developing targets, collating information on species and making plant identification guides.
- Using the iNaturalist platform to engage volunteers in threatened plant monitoring and participate in iNat projects to support collection of data for conservation projects.
- Create awareness about CREW through attending exhibitions with the CREW team.
Who is eligible to apply?
We invite applications from graduates with a relevant National Diploma in Horticulture or Nature Conservation and have knowledge of Fynbos plants. Candidates should have a good command of spoken and written English, have experience in MS Office, and ideally a code B driver’s license with at least one year driving experience. This internship is only available to South African citizens and will be awarded in line with national equity targets.
Value of internship
The stipend offered is fixed at R 6 000 per month (National Diploma completed). No other benefits apply as this is an internship position.
