The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is seeking to appoint an organized, diligent and dedicated individual with a goal oriented professional approach to provide strategic support, statutory secretariat and performance reporting in the Office of the Chief Executive Officer (oCEO).
The successful candidate must be in possession of a three (3) year National Diploma or Degree in Public Management/Business Administration or any relevant field enhanced by (8) eight years relevant working experience dealing with Board/Committees and Executive matters, of which 5 years should be at middle management.
The candidate should have a good understanding of corporate governance, compliance and performance reporting frameworks including overall government planning cycle. The candidate will be responsible to draft agendas while providing input into Board/ Committees and EXCO meeting packs to ensure they are compliant. Taking and drafting accurate minutes, compile relevant reports to the above bodies while managing and providing strategic input to other critical stakeholder meetings. The candidate must have excellent communication, analytical and problem solving, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, and have the ability to manage all ad hoc tasks within the oCEO to ensure smooth running and compliance of the organisation.
The candidate must have knowledge of King IV Report, Public Service prescripts/policies, Treasury Regulations and be familiar with Financial Regulations. Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel is a prerequisite, and should be in possession of a valid (unendorsed) driver’s licence. The successful candidate must have the ability to deal with urgent and highly confidential matters at all times, and pay attention to detail. The incumbent must be willing to work outside normal working hours and travel nationally as and when required.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide integrated and statutory secretariat services to the Board/ Committees and EXCO and ensure implementation of decisions taken by these bodies.
- Provide compliance, parliamentary and governance support services to the oCEO including coordination of the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) meetings and processes.
- Review and analyse SANBI submissions/reports and Board resolutions and make abbreviated notes and recommendations to the CEO for decision making purposes.
- Provide support for implementation of SANBI Board and Executive Decisions, and develop appropriate systems.
- Facilitate SANBI’s strategic, operational and performance planning and reporting, and develop appropriate systems.
SANBI offers an inclusive annual salary package of R826 053.00.
