The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is seeking to appoint a vibrant individual that is enthusiastic that is required to communicate SANBI’s mandated work and to effectively promote the roles of the nine National Botanical Gardens and National Zoological Garden to the public through the development and implementation of marketing and commercialisation strategies and plans.

The role requires an individual with:

  • NQF 7 Marketing Degree and/or any equivalent tertiary related qualification with at least eight (8) years’ experience in marketing and sales, media, journalism, communications and public relations of which five (5) years should be in middle management.
  • Three years’ experience within the brand space will be an added advantage.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to articulate and communicate complex issues to a variety of audiences across business segments as well as the public
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work well in partnerships involving a wide variety of organisations, stakeholders and businesses
  • Strong personal initiative, problem solving skills, creativity and ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to manage several projects/tasks at the same time
  • Collaborative and flexible work style
  • Experience in web content management and use of other new media
  • A valid (unendorsed) Code B driver’s license plus one year’s driving experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide inputs in the development and updating of SANBI Corporate Identity Guidelines.
  • Manage the application and monitor usage of the Corporate Identity and conduct regular branding audits.
  • Implement the Marketing and Commercialisation strategy in line with the financial sustainability of the organisation.
  • Support the implementation of the commercialisation opportunities for SANBI gardens.
  • Media relations – build relationships with media, manage media buying, media schedules and media list.
  • Brand Management.
  • Provide marketing support to Biodiversity science and Policy Advice Branch.
  • Provide inputs into the development and/or revision of policies.
  • Provide support on the development of the annual report.
  • Support internal and external communication initiatives.
