The South African National Biodiversity Institute is looking for a self-motivated individual to support SANBI’s Adaptation Policy and Resourcing Division to develop funding proposals for the Green Climate Fund and Adaptation Fund.
This position requires the candidate to be in possession of a degree in Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Botany, or equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate degree or equivalent degree at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 8 years’ experience, 4 years of which should be in first line management position(s).
The successful candidate must have the following competencies:
- Track record of writing and developing funding proposals for foreign donors, including familiarity with Theory of Change; Logical Framework and similar methodologies, experience with Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, experience building budgets, and experience designing and running stakeholder engagement processes;
- Sound understanding of climate change adaptation and particularly ecosystem-based adaptation;
- Strong project management skills, ability to successfully support and manage competing demands and ability to work under pressure;
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, strong writing and communication skills, and ability to interact effectively and persuasively with diverse audiences;
- Ability to think strategically, analyse information logically and exercise sound judgement; and
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
Key performance responsibilities include:
- Provide strategic leadership for SANBI’s Green Climate Fund (GCF) project pipeline process;
- Develop the Green Climate Fund (GCF) project proposal pipeline including concept note and full proposal development;
- Lead Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning activities; and
- Undertake project management activities.
This position is made possible through a grant from the Government of Flanders. Candidates who applied previously need not reapply.
