The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to effectively manage and coordinate SANBI’s natural infrastructure programme across various SANBI Campuses. This position requires a degree in Engineering (Civil or Structural) or equivalent qualification at NQF 7. A postgraduate qualification in Engineering (Civil or Structural) or equivalent qualification at NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 8 years of work experience in the relevant field, 4 years of which should be in first line management position(s). The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: valid registration as a Professional Construction Project Manager with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP); professionally registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA); knowledge of the PFMA; knowledge of National Treasury’s Infrastructure Development Management System (IDMS); knowledge of infrastructure procurement and associated processes; experience in construction project management of similar scaled projects; experience in labour-intensive construction and managing expanded public works programmes; excellent knowledge and understanding of building materials/tools available in the built environment sector; an understanding of the relevant regulatory processes applicable to the Built Environment sector; a high level of project and financial management experience and expertise; excellent analytical, conceptual abilities, and report writing skills; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be an advantage. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential. Key Performance Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure effective regional infrastructure programme implementation;
  • Improve workplace health, safety and security;
  • Foster strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders; and
  • Manage regional infrastructure budgets.
