Biodiversity and Land Use Project

The Biodiversity and Land-Use (BLU) Project is a multi-faceted and multi-stakeholder project being implemented at the municipal scale. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and is implemented by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and its project partners.

SANBI requires an enthusiastic, responsible individual to provide policy support to the Environmental Management component of the Biodiversity and Land Use Project.

In addition, the post will contribute to the implementation of legislation and policy to support the mainstreaming of biodiversity; capacity development of environmental management officials and operational management of the environmental management component of the Biodiversity and Land-use Project.

The appointment requires a relevant graduate degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Management or Environmental or Natural Science enhanced by minimum of 5 years’ working experience within the relevant field and knowledge of biodiversity priorities and its use in Integrated Environmental Management.

The suitable candidate must be in possession of a valid Code B driver’s license, as well as be willing to travel. The ability to maintain sound interpersonal relationships and highly effective verbal and written communication capabilities are essential.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the development of policy, systems and procedures for mainstreaming biodiversity into Environmental Management processes and tools
  • Support the development of the Capacity Development Strategy and associated training products and implement capacity development interventions among provincial government staff and Environmental Assessment Practitioners to incorporate biodiversity priorities into their day to day work
  • Provide operational support to Environmental Management component of the project including implementation of relevant Monitoring and Evaluation Processes

SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary package of R488 115.93.
