The National Zoological Garden (NZG) is a rapidly transforming facility and is part of the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI). It has an impressive animal collection, one breeding centre as well as a wildlife research centre. The NZG is well placed as an education and awareness platform for visitors comprising of educators, learners, students, special interest groups and the general public. The following challenging opportunity is in a process of being filled.

The successful applicant will be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Assist with Internal and External Audits to render an effective service to the NZG and limit the number of audit queries
  • Exercise on-going internal control mechanisms to ensure cost efficiency and compliance to the NZG policies and procedures and the PFMA
  • Adhere to work delegated by NZG Director and Managers
  • Office Administration – Ensure complete record keeping for future reference and audit control
  • Ensure that all expenditure is complete, correct and accurate and paid on a timely basis in accordance to SCM processes and policies and procedures
  • Ensure that all income is complete, correct, and accurate and collected on a timely basis in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Ensure that the Electronic Banking procedures are effectively managed
  • Ensure effective management of the Petty Cash as per the policies and procedures
  • Ensure that all transactions are recorded on a timely basis in accordance with the policies and procedures
  • To ensure that refunds are accounted for according to the policies and procedures
  • Ensure full Creditors Function and minimal debtors function

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma in Business/Accounting or equivalent
  • 3 year experience in a finance environment
  • Knowledge of PFMA, PPPFA, BBBEEA, Treasury Regulations and other relevant prescripts
  • High proficiency levels in Great Plains Accounting system,
  • Excel and MS Word
  • Sound knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and other statutory financial management frameworks and regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and Customer/client service orientation
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a very fast-paced and demanding operations environment
  • Applicant will need to work on weekends and public holidays in line with the NZG labour practices
