The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires the services of qualified, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individuals to be incubated into a horticultural development programme aligned to SANBI’s career ladder for horticulturists.

The potential candidates must have either a National Diploma in Horticulture or Landscape Technology. B Tech degree / Advanced Diploma in Horticulture or Landscape Technology or Postgraduate Diploma in Horticulture or Landscape Technology will be an added advantage. Must be willing to work independently as well as in a team with a keen interest in conservation and ornamental display of indigenous flora. Applicants must be S.A Citizens and reside within the province in which the position will be based (attach proof of residence i.e. letter from the ward committee/ traditional authority or utility bill etc.). 

Key responsibilities:

Among other duties, the successful candidates will be expected to deliver on the following outputs:

  • Output 1: Horticultural Research and Development (propagation trials etc)
  • Output 2: Human Capital Development (own development)
  • Output 3: Curation of Living Collections (dedicated collection to co-curate)
  • Output 4: Horticultural Maintenance and Development (dedicated garden section to co-manage)
  • Output 5: Plant Conservation and Collaboration
