The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individuals to participate in the maintenance of the developed National Botanical Garden and its natural estate areas by mowing of lawn, tree felling, shrub pruning, cutting of fire breaks using appropriate tools and machinery, building of structures such as board walks, trails, river and water course maintenance, maintenance of fences, delivering professional customer services, and assist other team members as and when required in order to achieve the goals of the National Botanical Garden.
This position requires a Grade 12, Occupational Certificate in horticultural machinery or equivalent and relevant qualification at NQF 4. Higher Education Certificate at NQF 5 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 2 years’ relevant experience working with horticultural machinery.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: computer training; occupational health and safety training; experience working with power machinery; extensive experience working with high standard for tidy and good maintenance of all areas of work in accordance with good health and safety policies; and ability to work under pressure whilst being safety and quality conscious including ability to work independently as well as with diverse team members; and good time management, interpersonal, planning, organizing, and verbal communication skills
Key Performance Responsibilities include:
- To operate machines and tools related to estate development, and maintenance;
- Maintain machines, tools and equipment effectively;
- Adhere to risk, health and safety standards and regulations; and
- Support internal and external client services.
