The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated individual to effectively manage and develop all areas of the garden, overseeing the wellbeing and smooth operation of the garden team by managing staff and directing the day-to-day operations at the Hantam National Botanical Garden. Daily maintenance work will be concentrated wherever the need is greatest across all sections of the garden.
This position requires Grade 12 or equivalent qualification with NQF 4. Higher Education Qualification at NQF 5 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 2 years’ of garden and maintenance and leadership experience.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: comprehensive knowledge and understanding of garden development, planning, maintenance, conservation, landscaping, and supervision of garden team members are essential; knowledge of legislation, policies, procedures, processes, practices, systems, and frameworks related to garden development, planning, maintenance, conservation, landscaping, and supervision and training of garden team members is essential; proven ability to work under pressure whilst being quality and safety conscious is essential; good planning, organizing, interpersonal, time management, and problem solving skills; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), computer literacy and experience in the application of software tools including (Ms Word, MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Internet and Outlook) will be advantageous.
Key Performance Responsibilities include:
- Ensure effective maintenance of the estate;
- Effective estate facilities management;
- Ensure provisioning of health and safety services;
- Ensure effective resource management;
- Assist with customer services; and
- Support People Management Administration and Human Capital.
