The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated, flexible, and reliable individual to coordinate and provide support for SANBI’s work in Ecosystem-based Approaches to climate change, with a focus on Ecosystem-based Adaptation, including the provision of policy support, technical support, capacity building, knowledge sharing and learning and communication.

This position requires a degree in Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Resource Economics, Environmental Management, Sustainable Development or an equivalent qualification with NQF 7. A postgraduate degree or equivalent qualification with NQF 8 will be an added advantage. This position also requires 6 years’ of work experience in the relevant field including project administration and/or management.

The successful candidate should have an understanding of the principles of Ecosystem-based Adaptation and their application, and experience in the management and coordination of project activities. The successful candidate should also demonstrate excellent organisational and time management skills, strong teamwork and client-facing qualities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong leadership and presentation competencies. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is required.

Key Performance Responsibilities include:

  • Provide policy support for the development and implementation of South Africa’s Ecosystem-based Adaptation Strategy and implementation plan;
  • Provide technical support for SANBI’s Ecosystem-based Adaptation programme of work;
  • Support capacity building, knowledge sharing and learning for Ecosystem-based Adaptation;
  • Provide support for SANBI’s Ecosystem-based Adaptation communication processes; and
  • Undertake project management activities and support the Adaptation Policy and Resourcing Division with identified operational activities.
