The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for a self-motivated and meticulous individual to conduct and apply molecular genetic research and provide genetic services to the biodiversity sector.
This position requires a national diploma in Molecular Biology, Genetics or equivalent qualification at NQF 6 with 4 years of work experience in the relevant field of molecular analysis processes such as DNA extraction, PCR and cycle sequencing or degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics or equivalent qualification at NQF 7 with 2 years of work experience in the relevant field of molecular analysis processes such as DNA extraction, PCR and cycle sequencing.
The following competencies are required for the candidate to be successful in this position: training in good laboratory practice and laboratory safety, knowledge of DNA barcoding, preferably in plants; excellent communication skills (both verbal and written at all levels), analytical skills; ability to work with a diverse team and under pressure whilst being quality and safety conscious; and advanced computer literacy. The possession of a valid driver’s licence with at least one-year practical driving experience and a willingness to travel is essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct research and development;
- Ensure for relevant application of methods, processes, and protocols;
- Ensure for proper interpretation and dissemination of results;
- Attend to planning, data management and documentation; and
- Attend to human capital development matter within a unit
