(Biological Invasions Directorate)
Level 07 (Contract position until March 2020)
The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires an efficient and enthusiastic person to provide technical assistance to the Regional Biological Invasions Directorate.
The role requires an individual with the following minimum requirements: NQF level 7 qualification in Environmental Science/Biological sciences or related field. At least 2 years’ relevant experience. The candidate will be required to work systematically and demonstrate an ability to plan and conduct field trips. Proficient in MS Excel, MS Power Point and MS Word. Good presentation and report writing skills. Scientific research skills. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Good interpersonal skills. Analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to take initiative, function independently and work well as part of a team. It is essential that the candidate be in possession of a valid (unendorsed) Code B driver’s license plus proven driving experience and must be willing to travel.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide support to the regional unit (manage field trips, facilitate team attendance at appropriate annual scientific conferences/symposia, awareness raising, etc.).
- Responsible for data co-ordination for the regional unit.
- Assist with research and take responsibility for collecting the data.
- Provide administrative support for the management of projects to clear emerging invasive alien plants and administration.
- Health and Safety representative for the unit.
SANBI offers an all-inclusive remuneration package of R310 457.07 per annum.
