Climate Funds Unit 

SANBI is seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to lead the project management and oversee processes of the USD 2,5 million Adaptation Fund Small Grant Facility project on contract for a period of 18 months as a Technical Grant Manager.

Description

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to lead the project management and oversee processes of the USD 2,5 million Adaptation Fund Small Grant Facility project, including coordination of governance, financial management and reporting processes, and the provision of project management and technical support.

Requirements

This appointment requires the candidate to be in possession of a post-graduate qualification in development studies/ environmental management/public administration or equivalent, which is enhanced by at least 5 years’ of relevant project management experience. An understanding of the context of Climate Change Adaptation is required, and experience in small grant project development, costing and reporting, as well as in working with community organisations, is essential. It would advantageous to have local knowledge of the Mopani and Namakwa District Municipalities, as well as experience with supply chain and financial management processes in the public sector.

The successful candidate should have excellent spoken and written command of English, excellent organisational, coordination, interpersonal and teamwork skills, experience with MS Office and an ability to work well with stakeholders. Possession of a valid Code EB driver's license with at least one year's driving experience is compulsory. This position also requires the candidate to be willing to travel nationally.

Key responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for:

  • Provide technical support to the Adaptation Fund Small Grant Facility project;
  • Lead processes to monitor compliance of and report on the Adaptation Fund Small Grant Facility project;
  • Capture learnings from the Adaptation Fund Small Grant Facility project;
  • Support SANBI’s Green Climate Fund pipeline development and operationalization processes;
  • Provide ad hoc support to SANBI’s Climate Funds Unit as needed.
