The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and self-driven professional to take responsibility for providing the operational and technical supervision of operations within the IT Directorate. The incumbent is expected to provide vision and leadership, implementing of enterprise IT systems, setting of standards, policies, procedures, processes and initiatives that align with the mission of the IT Directorate to improve cost effectiveness, service quality and mission development and ensure alignment with both the IT Directorate and the IT SANBI strategy.

This position requires a three year tertiary qualification in Information Technology supported by A+ and N+ Certification, Hyper-V certification and open source technologies enhanced by a minimum of five (5) years relevant working experience in the information technology of which two (2) years must be at a technical supervisory level. The successful candidate must be in possession of a certified and appropriate Microsoft qualification (MCSE) and best practice methodologies (ITIL).

The candidate must demonstrate technical planning, IT governance, strong leadership skills and analytical thinking. Experience in IT risk management and implementation of IT projects to enhance the organizations performance is essential. The candidate must have advanced intermediate to advanced technical skill and working knowledge of Microsoft platforms. Administration in open source environments would be advantageous. Possession of a valid (unendorsed) Code B/EB driver’s license, with at least one year’s driving experience, is a further requirement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Operational networking and systems management;
  • Creation and Implementation of operational standards, policies, procedures, processes, technical documentation and reporting;
  • Operational support and supervision of all regional offices;
  • IT Change Management;
  • IT Governance.

SANBI offers an annual salary of R444 693.00 and additional fringe benefits.
