SANBI, through a national co-ordinator, is responsible for the implementation and management of the institutional arrangements of the Early Detection and Rapid Response programme at national and regional level.
Regional Co-ordinators
The programme currently has seven regional co-ordinators, responsible for the Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo-North West and Mpumalanga. All detections are channelled through these offices at regional level.
Spotters
These are volunteers who have the unique ability to spot new incursions.
National Programme Co-ordinator
The National Programme Co-ordinator and administrative support are based at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. All detections, evaluations, verifications, and recommendations will be co-ordinated from this office.
Rapid Response Contractors
Specially trained teams are deployed to plan and execute control and eradication programmes as managed by the regional co-ordinators.
The National Steering Committee
The committee consists of senior members of SANBI and the other key stakeholders that oversee the programme.
